Colour palette from Finnish nature

Nature is an extraordinary source of colour. Almost all coloured plant parts such as leaves, stems, flowers, roots, berries, husks, fruits and cones produce pigments suitable for dyeing. Many natural colourant sources are known already early in the history and dyeing traditions offer a basis for modern biocolourant research. This exhibition showcases natural colours that can be created by dyeing with plants either native in Finnish nature or applicable for cultivation in Finland’s climate conditions. The photos are taken by textile designer and craft teacher Päivi Kovanen who has also made the knitted garments and samples .
